Senior Erykah Anderson thought she had placed third chair clarinet in the CenTex Concert Band until she found out that there had been a mistake in calculating her score. She was actually first chair.

On Wednesday, senior Erykah Anderson competed at the CenTex band competition in Riesel.

After a quick run-through, she performed her music and sight-read for the judges, placing 15 out of 56 clarinets overall.

“It was cool,” Anderson said. “I had a lot of fun.”

Placing in the top 15 wasn’t her only accomplishment of the day. Erykah was listed that night as third chair clarinet in the concert band – and then was moved up to first chair when it was discovered that a mistake had been made on the score sheet.

“Overall, I’m proud of my performance,” Anderson said. “I think I did pretty well.”
