“Memories … Do Not Open” is a unique album

The Chainsmokers is an EDM/pop duo from New York City, that formed in 2012. The Chainsmokers is made up of two members: Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. The duo rose to fame in 2014 with their first single “#Selfie”. Since then, they have won 14 awards out of the 73 they have been nominated for, including a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for their song “Don’t let me Down.”

The Chainsmokers are okay. The first time I listened to them was back in 2014 when they released the song “#Selfie”. I wasn’t impressed by that song at all, personally, I thought the song was annoying. However, they have grown a lot since then. A few of their newer songs such as “Don’t Let Me Down”, “Closer”, and “Something Just Like This”, are actually really good. If I had to pick a favorite song by them, it would be “Something Just Like This.”

“But she said where’d you wanna go? How much you wanna risk? I’m not looking for somebody with some superhuman gifts. Some superhero, some fairytale bliss, just something I can turn to, somebody I can kiss. I want something just like this.” ~Something Just Like This

The Chainsmokers released their first EP called Bouquet, in 2015. It peaked at number two on Billboard’s U.S Top Dance/Electronic Albums, and at number four on Billboard’s U.S Top Heatseekers Albums. In 2016, they released their second EP called Collage. Collage includes the two top ten singles “Don’t Let Me Down” featuring Daya and “Closer” featuring Halsey. “Closer” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 12 consecutive weeks, making it the longest running number one single of 2016.

In the spring, The Chainsmokers released their first studio album Memories…Do Not Open. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. The album also debuted at number one on UK Dance Albums, Billboard Canadian Albums, South Korean Albums International, and Billboard’s US Top Dance/Electronic Albums. Memories…Do Not Open peaked on 28 charts from all over the world, and it sold 221,000 total copies within its first week.

Memories…Do Not Open, is a good album. If I had to rate it from 1-10, I would give it a seven. Don’t get me wrong I like the album, but I’ve heard better first albums. The only thing I don’t like about this album, is all of the featured artists. I think it has way too many featured artists, and I just don’t like the way that some of the collaborations flow. Memories…Do Not Open, is different than most of the pop on the radio these days, and that’s what I really like about it. Personally. I think “Paris” and “Something Just Like This” are the best songs on this album.

“We were staying in Paris, to get away from your parents and I thought wow. If I could take this in a show right now, I don’t think that we could work this out. Out on the terrace. I don’t know if it’s fair but I thought how could I let you fall by yourself, while I’m wasted with someone else.”~Paris

If you are interested in purchasing The Chainsmokers’s Memories…Do Not Open album, it is available in stores, or on iTunes and Amazon. I recommend this album for the people that like electro-pop music or music collaborations. I wasn’t a fan of this type of music until I listened to a song off of this album. If you don’t at least give this album a listen, then you are missing out.
