Bison sports looking for playoff spots

If anyone hasn’t had the chance to go out and see the Bison and Lady Bison sports teams in action, their time is running out. With both volleyball and football teams looking at playoff berth possibilities and cross country approaching their district meet with favorable times, the fall sports lineup in Buffalo is falling in favor of the Bison.

Volleyball

The Lady Bison varsity and JV volleyball teams played Westwood and Teague last week. The teams fell to both opponents after multiple, hard-fought sets.

“We just started to get tired and we lost our poise,” junior Melanie McGill said. “We didn’t really have our head in the game.”

However, the teams are not letting these losses get to them. The team said that they are already looking ahead to the next games and will, hopefully, make up for it.

“We were just a little off last week,” sophomore Mollie Dittmar said. “We are going to work hard in practice and look to the games to come.”

Football

Like every other week, football– varsity and JV– dominated on the field. Last week, JV and varsity took on Bruceville Eddy and are preparing for the end of district and playoffs.

“Practice has been getting more serious now that the season is coming to an end,” sophomore John Vaughn said. “I think the coaches are preparing for playoffs mostly.”

Next week, the teams will compete against Marlin. Marlin has a history of being rowdy and sometimes getting out of hand. This is the only thing worrying some of the football players.

“We will win, no doubt,” junior Colton Green said. “I am just worried about the fans and how they will react to us beating them.”

Cross Country

Varsity, JV, and junior high cross- country runners are preparing for district. Next week, they all will run in Elkhart for the district meet.

“I am so excited,” senior Daniella Reyes said. “The whole team has been working pretty hard for a while now.”

Last week, the runners participated in a meet in Slocum. Junior Jose Diaz and senior Daniella Reyes placed 9th and 15th, respectively.

“I just wanted to run, it is my passion,” junior Jose Diaz said. “Cross- country allows me to fulfill two of my passions at once– to run and to compete.”
