He catches the ball and starts running as fast as he can, dodging all of the people trying to catch him. The crowd grows silent in anticipation, but all he can hear is his heartbeat echoing through his body. It feels like his heart might explode out of his chest, but just as he’s sure he take anymore, he crosses the finish line with his team on his heels. The crowd starts going wild as the announcer yells “Touchdown!” through the mic.

Football season is just starting, and the JV football team has played two games so far, with both ending with victories.

“I know this football season is going to be a good one because of the family we have, it’s a brotherhood,” freshman Dawson Grantland said. “The coaches think the season is going to be a good one too because we have a good team of guys who are willing to put in the work.”

Grantland may only be a freshman, but he has played football since he was a child and has always had a passion for it.

“I love football because of the adrenaline rush you get when you’re out there on the field,” Grantland said. “All of my family has always loved watching football, so they enjoy watching me play when they can. It’s cool showing them how hard I’ve worked when they get to come watch me play.”

Junior Adrian Saenz has been playing football since seventh grade and said this year is his favorite so far because of all the effort he puts into it.

“I may only be on JV and people may say that we aren’t good, but if they knew how hard we have worked they would change their minds,” Saenz said. “This is my favorite year of football because I know we are going to make it far; we have worked hard for our wins that we have gotten so far.”

Both of the previous games have been won by a high point spread, and the boys hope to see that at the next game, Saenz said.

“The next game is going to be more challenging because of who we are playing,” Saenz said. “We can still win if we work hard enough though.”
