Baseball heads to playoffs

The stands are full, the dugouts are a mess, and the pitcher is full of confidence in his stance. In this year’s baseball season, many games had moments like that. Despite being a young team with only two seniors, the Bison made it to the playoffs once again.

“Family! That is the word that comes to mind when describing the 2017 baseball team,” assistant coach Aaron snow said. “There is no better feeling than having a team that really clicks to create a successful baseball season while having a great time.”

Only two seniors and two juniors were a part of this year’s starting lineup.

“This was a growing year for us,” sophomore Jake Henigan said. “Almost every game we started five sophomores, so it was a young team.”

The group graduated a full team of starting seniors last year.

“Our whole starting lineup was seniors last year, so this year was a learning experience for all of us,” Henigan said. “We are going to miss the seniors because they are great role models, not just in baseball but in everything outside of sports.”

Freshman Matthew Jonas said he was happy to have experienced playing varsity baseball for the first time.

“As a team, we didn’t have a lot of varsity experience but we did have a lot of varsity experience,” Jonas said. “We should have a great year next year and hopefully make it through a couple rounds of playoffs at least.”

Senior Bryce Ryder was proud of the team despite not going far into playoffs.

“This baseball season was a great season,” Ryder said. “Although it didn’t end the way we wanted, it was good. We built a great camaraderie between the guys.”
