Bison Baseball is here, with the players hoping this year will get them back into the playoffs and even deeper than last season.

“I’m excited this season; I’ve been waiting for it to approach,” Chase Thompson said. “The team is looking good, and I’m just ready to get out there and put in the work.”

Although the season has just started, they have had several games and scrimmages. They won their first district game against Malakoff.

“It’s early on in the season, but so far we have done well,” Thompson said. “Not only do we have talent and skill on the team, we have great teamwork, which is important.”

Last week, they participated in their first tournament of the season, in Blooming Grove. They won two of their games. This week the team is hosting a tournament.

“It was exciting to win both of our games last week,” Thompson said. “We were already pumped because the girls had won their basketball game, and our win pumped us up even more.”

According to some of the players, they are expected to be one of the top teams in the district. Although they lost a lot of seniors last year, they have several returners.

“We are expected to be good because we are the previous district champs,” freshman Landon Folsom said. “However, there are other great teams in the district, so we have to work for it.”

The team consist of mostly juniors and sophomores, making them a young team. However, the players say that this year is promising and that it’s all about growing as a team.

“We have big shoes to fill due to the fact that we lost a lot of seniors,” Tristan Best said. “However, I think we can, the chemistry of the team, as well as the skills are all very reflective.”

The players have said that they are looking forward towards this season because they are all ready to grow not only as individual players, but as a team as well. They agree that the best part of it all is the fun they have together.

“It’s going to be a fun season,” Folsom said. “ We have a lot to learn, but I think it will end up pretty well.”
