The Weeknd expands his sound

The Weeknd expands his sound

Starboy reached the number-one mark on iTunes last fall. And it contains pretty much everything that you’ve ever loved about The Weeknd, no matter what it is you love about him.

The Weeknd has expanded his vocal range — almost unrecognizably so on the opening to “Secrets” — and his sound and lyrics push the envelope in areas where he’s previously dabbled. He reconnects with previous collaborators, including hit-maker Max Martin, whose hand in 2015’s “Can’t Feel My Face” made it a wedding-DJ favorite.

“It’s good to have darkness,” The Weeknd told Beat 1’s Zane Lowe. “Because when the light comes, it feels that much better.” In September 2016, the release of the third album, Starboy was announced, along with the release of the tracks “Starboy” and “False Alarm”

The Weeknd started his career in 2010 when he uploaded three songs to youtube under his stage name.
