Ready? Okay!

Senior Kynlee Driskill is very familiar with this term and many other cheerleading terms, since she is the head of the cheerleading team. Driskill has been cheering and tumbling for more than six years.

“I like to cheer because I love to support the school and everyone in it,” Driskill said.

Driskill has been cheering since the seventh grade and plans to continue on in college. She plans to attend Tarleton State University in Stephenville Texas next fall.  It is a college closer to her family in Stephenville, making visits easier to have.

“I am thinking of going to Tarleton because I am from Stephenville,” Driskill said. “Tarleton is a really great school.”

Driskill is usually a healthy teenager, but health complications this year have made things difficult. From fractured ankles to heart monitors, Driskill has struggled to get strong again after an accident in a pep rally earlier this year.

“I fractured both of my ankles by doing a toe touch and landing wrong,” Driskill said. “When I landed, it pulled the tendon so hard away from my ankle bones and pieces of bones chipped off.”

After having to be carried off the floor, Driskill went to the doctor and was told not to cheer for a month. After the heartbreaking news, she still decided to not get down.  Even though she couldn’t cheer, she still attended every football game and sat on the sidelines cheering the boys on.

“I still wanted to support the team,” Driskill said. “I still was a cheerleader, after all.”

Finally almost all healed up, Driskill will be able to compete in the second annual UIL state cheer competition. She still has to wear ankle braces, but she is able to do everything she needs to do. She has to be careful, though.

“The doctor told me I would be more at risk for fractures in my ankles from now on,” Driskill said.

Even though senior year is known to be very stressful, Driskill seems to have it all under control. Having all of her credits lined up and a college chosen, Driskill is ready to begin this new exciting chapter in her life.

“I am excited and nervous to go to college,” Driskill said. “I am a little nervous to be on my own though.”
