Tourist killed in footbridge collapse

Tourist killed in footbridge collapse

On Monday, a national holiday in Columbia, tourists flocked to the El Carmen preserve. The tourists were at the Colombian nature preserve on a wooden footbridge when it collapsed. Seven people were killed and 15 injured in the incident.

The bridge was privately built in 2004 and collapsed due to an excess of weight. An eyewitness told media that about 20 people were on the bridges when the ropes holding it snapped. The bridge ranged from a height of 32 to 49 feet, and tourists were charged $1 each by the owner to cross it.

Two days of mourning have been declared.
