Journalism participates in hometown project

Journalism+participates+in+hometown+project

Journalism students had to give some thought to what Buffalo means to then to participate in a project sponsored by The Project for Better Journalism last fall. Students entered photos, poems, video and essays that showcased their hometown.

“The project really made me think about the town and how I felt about it,” sophomore Sheri Donaldson said. “It was fun.”

Some members of the group received awards for their poems and pictures. Sophomores Megan Wedhorn and Sheri Donaldson and freshman Colby Menefee were recognized for their entries.

“I did a picture collage of the whole town,” freshman Colby Menefee said. “The fact that they recognized us made me have a sense of pride in my work.”

This is the first year that the Journalism class has participated in the Hometown Project. Many of the students hope to do the project again next year.

“I enjoyed the project because it allowed me to take pictures,” sophomore Megan Wedhorn said. “I want to do it again so I can put my photography skills to the test.”

All of the journalism students had their items published online by PBJ. To view all of the BHS entries, as well as entries from around the country, visit http://hometown.betterjournalism.org/
