Senior Trent Martin swings for a hit during the 2013 baseball season. Martin was selected to be a KBTX Classroom Champion.

Trent Martin has been named a KBTX Classroom Champion. The news crew was on hand Wednesday to interview and film Trent for his segment, which will air on Channel 3 out of Bryan/College Station on March 20.

Academic Coordinator Dana Morris nominated Trent to be a Classroom Champion.

“Trent is a strong leader both in sports and in the classroom,” Morris said. “He is one who gives his all in everything he pursues.”

According to teachers and coaches, Martin excels in the classroom as well as on the field and on the court. He has played football and baseball all four years of his high school career. He played basketball for three years and currently serves as the manager of the basketball team. Trent has received multiple honors in sports, including Academic All-District every year in every sport he played.

Martin was named Newcomer of the Year his sophomore year for football. He received 1st Team All-District Offensive Guard his junior and senior year.

For baseball, Martin received Honorable Mention All-District his sophomore year and 2nd Team All-District his junior year.

Martin’s honors are not just on the field, though. He has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years and was in FFA for two years. He has competed in UIL Mathematics for a year, and has acted in theater productions as well.

“Trent is hardworking dependable, and always positive,” teacher Jill Henson said. “He is the kind of young man I hope my own two sons grow up to be.”

After graduating from Buffalo High School this year, Trent will be attending Texas A&M University in College Station where he plans to pursue a degree in Construction Science.

“I am looking forward to meeting new friends at Texas A&M as well as figuring out life by myself,” Martin said. “I will for sure miss by family, friends and the community of Buffalo where I have grown up my entire life.”
