Netflix is full of hidden-gems, and one of the best-kept secrets is The Good Place, an American comedy T.V. series created by Michael Schur in 2016. The show lasted four seasons, with the last episode airing January 30, 2020.

It all starts with Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) when she wakes up in the afterlife and is surprised to see that she has made it into The Good Place. However, it doesn’t take long for her to realize that she’s there by mistake and is actually supposed to be in the Bad Place. In attempt to stay in paradise, she hides in plain sight from the Good Place architect, Michael (Ted Danson). With the help of her “perfect” neighbors, Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Jason (Manny Jacinto), and her moral soul mate Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Eleanor becomes determined to shed her old “trashbag” habits. Not to mention an epic plot-twist at the end of season one that lights the way for the next three seasons.

The Good Place is a fantastic, feel-good show that will have viewers feeling every single emotion. The actors put on outstanding, beautiful performances and play their parts to perfection. Not only this, but the show covers some important life lessons, such as bettering oneself and understanding that no one is perfect.

The main characters are a diverse mix of races, personalities, and flaws. We see each person grow and improve, proving that it is never too late for redemption. The Good Place’s storyline is incredibly unique, smart, and interesting; I’ve never seen anything like it before.

I fully expected this show to be boring and repetitive, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. After watching the first episode, I was hooked. I was emotionally committed to the characters and their problems.

My only complaint is that the series stopped at four seasons. Despite my sadness, I know that the show ended when it needed to end. Unlike many other T.V. series, The Good Place didn’t overstay its welcome.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this show to anyone looking for a lighthearted, hilarious comfort show with some important themes.
