BHS Art students were recently invited to participate in the third annual Big Thicket National Preserve art exhibit this year.

This year’s art exhibit theme is “The Many Colors of Big Thicket.” Art students researched colorful life within the reserve and worked in groups to create large-scale paintings.  The pieces will be on display at the Big Thicket National Preserve Visitor Center in Kountze.

Senior Andrea Daniel and sophomores Disha Patel and Glori Cozart created a piece for the exhibit. It was a snake with a desert background.

“We worked for many weeks on this project,” Cozart said. “It was a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun.”

Many of the BHS students researched the reserve before making their projects. They tried to come up with ideas to relate to the reserve.

“We decided to do a duck for our piece,” senior Emma Reeder said. “We researched lots of the animals on the reserve and found that ducks were very popular there.”
