CenTex Honor Band tryouts last month saw seven students from the junior high and high school bands earning spots on the band, which meant all of them spent a Saturday practicing with their new bands and then performing for the public. For students used to being part of a small band, it was a new experience.

“It was interesting and super fun to meet students from other schools,” freshman Omar Almeida said. “Coming together and playing music was a cool experience, and I look forward to doing it again.”

Students participating in Centex spent many hours practicing their music with high hopes of making the top band.

“I spent so much of my time working on this music,” freshman Sedona Whitehead said. “This music was super hard for me to learn, but practicing definitely paid off.”

For some students, this was their final opportunity to play in a Centex band. Earning a spot was very exciting for them.

“Getting to perform in the symphonic band was a dream come true, and I’m glad I got to do it before I graduated,” senior Megan Wedhorn said. “I will never forget this experience, and I wish I could do it again.”

For the students auditioning, this was not a one-time event.

“I definitely plan on trying again next year,” Whitehead said. “I placed 49th out of 54 students this year, but I know for sure that I will ace tryouts next year.”
